Annually, breweries enter beers to be judged by the GABF’s Professional Judge Panel – this year numbering 100 – which awards gold, silver or bronze medals. The GABF is considered the most prestigious competition in the nation, and judges select beers that are recognized around the world as symbols of brewing excellence. In this the GABF’s 26th year, 473 breweries entered 2, 793 beers in 75 categories.

We know we have a great American-style lager. Our belief has once again been reinforced. And the two additional medal winners – those are firsts for both styles, so we’re very honored to receive that recognition.”
Steamworks’ Colorado Kölsch competed against 44 additional entrants in the German Style Kölsch /Koln Style Kölsch category to earn the Silver medal. The Colorado Kölsch is a derivative of German Kölschs, which were created in response to the popular lager-based Pilsners being produced in the

According to press materials from the GABF, the 2007 competition was the most competitive on record. Only 8 percent of all beers entered earned a medal. In total, 142 breweries – 30 percent of those participating – won at least one medal this year, and only 62 breweries – 13 percent of those participating – won at least one gold medal.
