DURANGO, Colo. – To help support community members who were impacted by the contamination/closure of the Animas River, Steamworks Brewing Co. and El Moro Spirits and Tavern will donate 10 percent of revenues from sales at both restaurants on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 to the Community Emergency Relief Fund (CERF).

The CERF was originally organized by the Durango Business Improvement District (BID), with the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado, in 2008 to help those impacted by the Main Ave. fire, and has now been reopened to assist those employees facing economic hardship directly related to the River contamination.

“We’re all a part of the same family here in Durango,” said Brian McEachron, co-founder of Steamworks/El Moro. “The Gold King Mine/Animas River issue has impacted all of us, but certainly the river industry most directly. As a company, we want to help.”

Preliminary estimates from rafting companies and those businesses who rely on the Animas River are that several hundred employees have either lost their jobs, or had hours cut virtually with no warning, and are in need of financial assistance.

Steamworks/El Moro will contribute revenues directly to the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado, the 501(c)(3) non-profit entity administering the CERF for the Business Improvement District. Housing the fund with the Community Foundation preserves the integrity of the process of fund distribution. “We hope community members will enjoy a lunch or evening out at Steamworks or El Moro knowing that a portion of their meal ticket will help out their neighbors,” said Kris Oyler, Steamworks/El Moro co-founder. “As a company we want to support the Community Emergency Relief Fund, helping today, but also building up the fund in case of emergencies in the future.”
